American firm Waymo has announced that its autonomous vehicles will be operational for hire on London's roads beginning next year.

London Becomes Leading European City for Autonomous Cab Service.

London will be established as the first European city to host an driverless taxi service, similar to those currently operational in multiple US cities and four other American locations using Waymo's innovative platform.

Waymo announced that its fleet are currently traveling to London and will start navigating on the city's roads in the next few weeks with trained human specialists behind the wheel.

The company – initially created as a derivative from the tech giant's self-driving car initiative and part of the larger corporate umbrella – explained it would scale up services and partner with the Department for Transport and London's transport agency to secure the required licenses to offer totally self-driving services by 2026.
