Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Home Fan Atmosphere Following Comfortable Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel expressed his disappointment that the Three Lions team did not get greater backing from the home spectators during their decisive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his side maintain their strong performance, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the initial stages settling the contest. But, he was displeased with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“With one and a half sessions to get ready against a organized team and we performed excellently,” the coach stated. “We could have been five goals ahead at the break. We missed the additional goals. The stadium was silent. There was no any energy from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you deliver in the first quarter? We didn’t let them escape. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the squad warranted more support today.”
“I support my words. We cannot do more than being three goals up in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a greater backing in periods where it becomes tough.”
“In the second half, to cheer us on, there was excessive backing for the opposition. It could have helped us to recharge, but it is what it is and that is it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Display
Away from potentially starting a fight with fans, the manager also caused a stir by leaving out Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. But the move was validated by Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“He is what he is,” Tuchel explained. “He is a No 10 and he is vying for his place.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Improvement from Loss
The Wales manager hopes that his team, who host a strong Belgian side in a key qualifying match on next week, take lessons from their poor first-half display.
“This is why I scheduled this friendly,” Bellamy commented. “I need to see where we are. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? Today gives me motivation.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Ollie Watkins was substituted at the break after clattering into a post and is a concern when the national team face Latvia in Riga in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
